Can Joy be ‘chronic’ too? (I’m a resource!)

Something exciting has happened.
Indeed, it happened a while ago, but this seems as good a time as any to announce it!

Chronic Joy devotion books

There’s an organisation called Chronic Joy.

Chronic Joy produces resources and community to support people with chronic illnesses as well as those who care for them (what I call, ‘Watchers’). Finding Purpose and Discovering Purpose are their first two devotion books (which come with an accompanying ‘Small Group guide’).

Since I read these devotion books I have been recommending them left, right and centre. As some of you may know, I don’t personally have a chronic illness diagnosis – but these books still spoke to me and pointed me to Jesus.

That’s because whether we have a diagnosis or not, we all struggle with on-going problems, concerns or fears. It’s natural – because life is on-going and not everything is resolved nicely in twenty-four hours or so.

Why they’re worth a read

These devotion books are for you. They are for me.
Why?

  • They avoid easy responses and cliché answers
  • They offer Jesus as the ultimate solution, but don’t recover up the fact that this road can be hard
  • They remind us that whatever is going on in our lives we can still fulfil our highest purpose: to love God and others.

Lastly, they are interactive, and (coming from someone who often finds devotion books a bit boring or too ‘saintly’ – sorry, maybe I’ve simply been reading this wrong ones!), held my attention. I was sad to finish them and am eagerly awaiting the next in the series!

And to continue my exciting announcement

Also… Chronic Joy has included Called to Watch in the resource list at the back of their books! Very exciting! I look forward to a continuing partnership with them.

I don’t normally promote things. Indeed, I’ve said ‘no’ to offers of promotion on this website because I believe in individuals creating a supportive community – not in commercially supporting individuals!

I’d simply prefer not to contribute to the already over stimulating ‘buy me’ ‘buy this’ internet flood. And so I’m not going to pressure you into buying these books. I’m not even sure how to go about buying them, as I received my copies as a gift.

But I am going to say that they blessed me – and I would love to see them bless others. I also really love the work Chronic Joy is doing in encouraging people on Twitter and Facebook – I highly recommend you join them there!

Author: Emily J. M.

Hi, I'm Emily. Two of my closest family members struggle with chronic illness, and I watch them. That's hard, and so I write about life as a 'Watcher', what it looks like to support them and find Hope.

Thoughts? I'd love to hear from you, friend.
