Prayer, Chronic Illness and Healing (Part 2)

The Bible has some pretty in-your-face things to say about prayer and healing. Jesus, as He walked on this earth prayed some big prayers.
But where do these truths fit in my life when my loved ones are not healed however much I pray?

Prayer, Healing and Chronic Illness (Part 2)

I’m continuing my mission to make the resources on this website easier to find – so here is my second ’round up’ of prayer related posts. The first post included the articles:

Prayer and Chronic Illness (Part 2):

{POST 3}

Why praying for healing is tricky (a look at those troublesome Bible passages I used to hate)

As I watch people in my life suffer yet cling to the knowledge that I serve a good God, I have struggled with the Bible’s teachings on prayer. I used to read the verses which seemed to promise immediate physical healing with great cynicism.

At last I decided it was time for me to look into them properly, and I was somewhat surprised at what I discovered when I left my pride and preconceived ideas at the door.

{POST 4}

How to pray for healing from Chronic Illnesses (Jesus prayed, I prayed, and neither of us were answered!)

It’s all very well for me to know that I OUGHT to pray – but how do I really go about praying for someone with an ‘incurable’ disease? I decided to look at the sort of prayers Jesus prayed – and also whether or not they were answered..

Hi, I'm Emily. Two of my closest family members struggle with chronic illness, and I watch them. That's hard, and so I write about life as a 'Watcher', what it looks like to support them and find Hope.

  1. I have over 10 autoimmune illnessess, Lupus is one of them. Some of my illnessess are attacking my major organs, like my heart and kidneys.
    I think it’s especially difficult to pray for healing in the way that I want but God sees healing in a different way. In fact he sees a lot of things differently than I do. Although I am strong in my faith, I have to pray for healing even if I have been told by man there isnt a cure. I know that God is the only one that can heal me. However, healing isn’t always physical, healing can be being able to be at peace with things. It can be to enjoy life as he sees fit. He has given me peace.I try not to limit God and allow him to do what is best for me.

    1. Such honest words. Thank you for sharing. It’s such a struggle to see things from God’s point of view when life can physically be so hard. But it’s a worthwhile one!

  2. Emily, thanks for this post and links. I suffer with chronic pain and I will have to let my wife know about your blog/perspective. In my opinion, the perspective of spouses/other loved ones is often overlooked in the discussions about chronic pain. Not very long ago, I tried to sum up my own thoughts regarding praying for healing/what to pray for when you have chronic illness. I thought I would leave a link, if you want to check it out. Blessings. https://brokenandmended.com/2018/08/27/should-you-keep-praying-for-healing/

    1. Hi David! I really hope this blog turns out to be helpful for her (and you!). I do agree – it’s not talked about as much. Will definitely check out your link 🙂

      1. Thanks for the tip. I didn’t have trouble navigating anywhere else on your page, but just from the links in that particular posts. I sent out your blog to my blog followers and my Facebook Group today encouraging people to take a look.

Thoughts? I'd love to hear from you, friend.
